ABOUT NHSW

New Horizon School Westside (NHSW) is a private, independent, developmental Preschool through Fifth Grade school. Our hands-on and project-based learning approach represents a blend of best practices drawn from the progressive, developmental, and traditional educational philosophies, and is designed to prepare students for success in the 21st century. New Horizon School Westside is committed to providing quality academic education based on high, universal moral values in a progressive Islamic environment. We are dedicated to nurturing a positive American Muslim identity and a devotion to God through the teachings of Islam and a strong commitment to family, community, and humanity.

OUR MISSION

The New Horizon School Westside mission is to inspire excellence through rigorous academics and the promotion of universal moral values in a progressive Islamic environment. We nurture a positive American Muslim identity, a devotion to God, and a strong commitment to family and diversity in a global community.

OUR PHILOSOPHY

Our School’s philosophy is based on the developmental approach in preschool and a more traditional academic approach in our elementary program. Learning is maximized in an active learning environment that involves experimentation, exploration, and discovery. Academic excellence is best achieved through critical thinking, problem solving, discussion, and communication skills. Growth in social skills through positive peer and adult interaction, with an emphasis on Islamic values, will help our children develop a positive self-image as American Muslims.

OUR VALUES

We believe in the endless quest for excellence. Excellence cannot be compromised. We impose upon ourselves an obligation to reach beyond the minimal. None of us can settle for less than our best, and we can never stop trying to surpass what has already been achieved.

  • We believe in unity and diversity. We believe that diversity strengthens society and should be honored and protected, but also acknowledged as a challenge. True unity is more than self-interest; it results when values and ideas are shared. We look to the unifying force of these beliefs as a source of energy to brighten the future of our school and all that depend on it. For our school to succeed, we must operate in a climate of openness and trust, in which each of us freely grants others the same respect, cooperation, and decency we seek for ourselves.
  • We believe in progressive thinking and innovation. We promote growth through seeking new ideas and searching for new information. We will continuously seek knowledge and we must think creatively and continuously pursue new ideas to achieve uncommon breakthroughs.
  • We believe in continuous improvement. Continuous quality improvement is our way of life; it is the process we will use to achieve our vision. The school endures and prospers only by moving forward. We must anticipate change, shape it to our purpose, and act as its agents.
  • We believe school improvement is primarily people improvement. Significant, lasting school improvement cannot be separated from staff development. Commitment to continued growth should be expected of all people and all programs supported by school resources.
